Abstract
The academic and scientific importance of conducting studies on the socioeconomic situation of students has increased, which is analyzed in this article. The analysis focuses on a group of young people enrolled in six programs offered by the technological institute education system. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the socioeconomic groups to which students of the Cotacachi Higher Technological Institute of Ecuador belong. Descriptive tables obtained from data processed in the statistical program SPSS version 25 were used in the study. The results show that the parents of the students have lower levels of educational attainment due to their work activities and limited employment opportunities, leading to low socioeconomic development within households. Finally, it is considered that the Ecuadorian State should implement public policies across all social strata through financial assistance for students with limited economic resources.
