Discover one of the most stunning natural landscapes in northern Ecuador with a visit to Cuicocha Lagoon, located within the Cotacachi-Cayapas National Park.
The tour begins in Otavalo, where we will travel by private transport to this spectacular volcanic crater lake, situated at over 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) above sea level. Upon arrival, we will embark on an approximately four to five hour hike around the crater, following a scenic trail that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and its islands, formed by ancient volcanic eruptions.
During the hike, the guide will share insights about the volcano’s geology, the characteristic páramo flora, and the ecological importance of this protected environment. The tour also includes the fascinating legend that surrounds the lagoon, adding a touch of local mythology to the natural experience.
08:00 – Tour begins, pick-up from your hotel in Otavalo.
08:30 – Arrival and visit to the Park Interpretation Center at Cuicocha Lagoon.
08:45 – Begin the hike along the Sacred Trail around Cuicocha Lagoon.
13:45 – End of the hike.
14:00 – 14:30 – Lunch.
14:30 – 15:00 – Transfer back to Otavalo.
